The national standard system for nut implementation consists of mandatory safety standards and recommended technical specifications, with the following core standards:
Core mandatory standards
GB 19300-2014 National Food Safety Standard Nut and Seed Food
This standard is a mandatory standard currently in effect, applicable to all raw, dried, and cooked nuts and seed foods (such as walnuts, almonds, sunflower seeds, peanuts, etc.), covering the following key requirements:
Sensory requirements: no mold, no insect infestation, no visible foreign objects with normal vision
Physical and chemical indicators:
Acid value (based on fat) ≤ 3 mg/g (raw and dried)
Peroxide value (calculated as fat) ≤ 0.50 g/100g (for cooked products, sunflower seeds are relaxed to ≤ 0.80 g/100g)
Microbial limit:
Mold ≤ 25 CFU/g (cooked)
Salmonella cannot be detected
Pollutants and fungal toxins:
Aflatoxin B ₁ ≤ 5.0 μ g/kg
The limit of heavy metals such as lead, arsenic, cadmium, etc. complies with the provisions of GB 2762
This standard is the legal basis for market supervision departments to conduct random inspections, and many places will still issue notifications of unqualified products based on this standard in 2026.
Recommended technical specifications for supporting facilities
GB/T 22165-2022 "General Principles for Quality of Nut and Seed Foods"
Effective from August 1, 2023, replacing GB/T 22165-2008, providing a unified quality standard for the industry:
Product classification: Clearly distinguish between "raw and dried" (such as unprocessed walnuts) and "cooked" (such as roasted and fried melon seeds)
Quality requirements:
The acidity of raw and dried nuts has been tightened to ≤ 3 mg/g
Newly proliferated dried fruits, vegetables, and seeds have a peroxide value of ≤ 0.4 g/100g
Packaging label: Mandatory labeling of product category (raw/cooked), production date, and storage conditions
Inspection method: Unified sampling rules and judgment criteria to enhance market consistency
This standard is led by the China Food Industry Association, with the participation of leading enterprises such as Qiaqia, Three Squirrels, and Liangpinpuzi in drafting.
Special and Information Management Standards
GB/T 37111-2018 "Basic Information Description of Agricultural Products - Nuts"
Used for standardized collection and exchange of nut product information in e-commerce platforms and supply chain systems, standardizing fields such as name, place of origin, and specifications.
GB/T 46171-2025 "Hazelnut and Nut"
Newly released in 2025, for the first time, systematic requirements have been put forward for the grading, quality, storage and transportation of hybrid hazelnuts and hazelnuts, filling a special gap.
Standards under revision
GB/T 29647-2013 "Good Manufacturing Practice for Nut and Seed Fried Foods"
Under revision, plan number: 20260667-T-322, under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Commerce, with participation from enterprises such as Qiaqia and Three Squirrels. It is expected to be released in 2027 and will strengthen the HACCP and GMP management requirements for the production process.
Purchase and Compliance Tips
Consumers can identify compliant products through packaging labels:
View the execution standard number (GB 19300 or GB/T 22165)
Pay attention to the production date and shelf life, and avoid purchasing products that are close to expiration
Check the storage conditions. Nuts should be kept away from light, sealed, and stored at low temperatures to prevent oil oxidation
